All-Star games return to Edison State in March

The top girls basketball players from the Dayton and surrounding areas will come together once again this year on a familiar court.

The annual Bill Moss Memorial Underclass All-Star Game and Dayton Senior All-Star Classic returns to Edison State College in Piqua immediately following the high school season in a gym that hosted the games just a couple of years ago.

Monday, March 21 is the Underclass Games with the Freshman/Sophomore game set for 5:30 pm and the Junior game set for 7:30. Each game will be a regulation college game with 4 ten-minute quarters. The “snow date” will be March 23, which actually happened a couple of years ago, thus the extra dates are built into the schedule. The games are named after co-founder Bill Moss, the former head coach at Urbana High School who passed away during the 2017 season.

On Tuesday, March 22 the Dayton Senior All Star games will be played at 5:30 and 7:30. The “snow date” for this game will be March 24.

Some more details on the games:

  • Per OHSAA regulations, only two players from the same school will be eligible to play in each game, however more than two can be chosen if they are playing in separate games.
  • Unlike a shootout or showcase, this event is FREE for all the players who are invited. Regular $8 admission will be charged for all fans
  • The TKDS Network will be airing all of the games free for college coaches, and at a charge for out of town family and friends who want to view the games.
  • Players will wear their high school jerseys to participate in the game.
  • The selections for the games will begin right after the first of the year. Players must play a minimum of 11 regular season games to be able to participate. Certain exceptions will be considered.
  • A complete list of players will be released once the teams are full.
  • As a player receives her invitation to the event, she will have 48 hours to accept and secure her spot in the game. This includes the players responsibility to inform the coach of the game so their post-season banquet does not conflict, along with those who play a spring sport to clear with with their coach. The games will take place before the regular season games officially start for spring sports.
